Torrevieja unveils plans for 6 new city centre car parks
Locating a parking space in this bustling Costa Blanca city has become an impossible task

Finding a parking spot in Torrevieja city has become a daunting task that ranges from annoyingly frustrating to downright impossible, regardless of whether it’s a weekend or weekday. Last year, the City Council won praise for announcing plans to create six new car parks on public land but since then, it’s been radio silence.
That all changed last week when the Local Government Board officially awarded the contract to draft and manage the project. The joint venture UTE OWNplan–JARS has been selected to carry out the work for a total of €57,900.
The new car parks will be spread across key locations near the N-332, aimed at easing congestion and providing better access to the city centre. Here’s where each one will be:

- Car Park 1: Approximately 14,500 m² on Avenida de la Estación, at the corner of Calle Urbano, near the Acequión canal and adjacent to the N-332.
- Car Park 2: Next to the first, on an adjacent plot, covering 12,789 m².
- Car Park 3: Located in the Parque de las Naciones residential area and also beside the N-332, spanning 11,350 m².
- Car Park 4: At the junction of Avenida Ramón del Valle Inclán, Calle Terreta and Calle José María de Pereda y Emilia Pardo Bazán, with 7,102 m².
- Car Park 5: Between Calle Juan Valera, the CV-905 and Avenida Rosa Mazón Valero, with a surface area of 15,315 m².
- Car Park 6: The largest, covering 92,397 m², will be at Antonio Soria Park, which is already a hub for the weekly market and public events.

Altogether, the six sites total more than 150,000 square metres of new parking space.
The contractor has one month to complete the project designs. However, with summer fast approaching, it’s unlikely any of the car parks will be finished in time to accommodate the seasonal influx of tourists. In fact, construction during high season could further complicate traffic in the city before it makes it better.
