This summer, Seville is welcoming a brand-new green space right in the heart of the city. Set on the former Cruzcampo brewery grounds, the new Cruz del Campo Park will cover seven hectares between the neighbourhoods of Nervión and San Pablo, offering a much-needed natural retreat for locals and visitors alike.

 

Mayor José Luis Sanz, who visited the park this week to inspect the final works, confirmed that it will open to the public in the coming weeks. “This will mean more green space, more shaded areas, better air quality and greater enjoyment for Sevillian families,” he said, calling it “one of the priorities and objectives of this government team.”

 

Once open, the park will feature 950 trees, including 200 planted recently by the City Council’s Parks and Gardens team. A further 5,000 square metres has been set aside for children’s play areas, kitted out with slides, seesaws, a climbing pyramid and even a zip line. There will also be two multi-sports courts for games like indoor football, and a one-kilometre jogging path circling the perimeter for runners and walkers alike.

 

The green zone is part of a much larger 20-hectare redevelopment project in the area, which also includes a new residential complex with around 2,000 homes, nearly half of which will be social housing. The mayor laid the foundation stone for one of these blocks in March, a development by Emvisesa (the city's municipal housing, land, and facilities company) that will deliver 92 affordable homes.

 

With wide lawns, shady corners, and plenty of space for leisure and exercise, Cruz del Campo Park is expected to become a new urban hub for locals who, until now, have lacked a space like this nearby. It marks a transformation for a once-industrial site, breathing new life into the area and offering locals a greener, more liveable city.

 

As Mayor Sanz summed it up: “We continue to transform the city by offering more green areas, more housing, and creating new spaces for the enjoyment of Sevillians.”
