Sevilla Airport expands to meet huge passenger demand
Costing more than €1.5 million, the Sevilla Airport renovations should be finished early next year

San Pablo Airport in Sevilla is growing faster than ever. After setting an all-time record in 2024 with more than nine million passengers, the airport is preparing for another busy season by upgrading its dated terminals.
Aena, the state-owned company that manages airports across Spain, has announced a major project to improve access to the arrivals area beginning next year.
The upgrades follow the recent expansion of the terminal building and come in response to the increased traffic through the airport. With travel demand continuing to rise in 2025, the improvements are designed to make the passenger experience smoother and more efficient.
The contract for the works, worth more than €1.5 million, has been awarded to MAB and will take around eight months to complete. The focus will be on revamping the roads and the arrivals tunnel, as well as reorganising the interchange that leads to the P1 car park.
Plans include new paving, restructured footpaths and the installation of smart pedestrian crossings. The tunnel roof will also be repaired and repainted, and the direction of the traffic will be changed to create a better flow for both private and commercial vehicles.
The entrance to the parking area will be improved with new signage and road markings to align with the updated road design.
Two new vertical connecting hubs will be constructed to make movement between the arrivals and departures levels easier. One will be located in the orange tree courtyard across from an existing hub and will include an elevator and a fixed staircase. The second will be built at the north end of the tunnel and will feature an elevator, stairs and an escalator.
Accessibility is also a key part of the project, so a platform lift will be added in the orange tree courtyard to connect the pickup parking area with both the new and existing hubs. This will offer safer and more convenient access for passengers with reduced mobility.
Both connecting hubs will be covered to provide protection from the weather. In addition, an automatic door will be installed between the Arrivals road and the Departures hall. The project will wrap up with a full cleaning of the terminal building’s façade.
