October 27 Free tour of the Roman and Iberian temples in the Caravaca village of La Encarnación

Visit the remains of pre-Christian settlements in the countryside of Caravaca de la Cruz

Many centuries before the advent of the True Cross in Caravaca and the construction of the sanctuary and castle, the Romans and Iberians were already living in what is now the municipality, and one of their most important settlements was the one in La Encarnación, close to the river gorge of the same name.

Within the gorge was a sacred site devoted to the goddess Venus, and remnants of a temple to her can still be seen here among other sights of interest.

This tour on 27^th October includes the temple and other important buildings which were constructed in Caravaca before the age of Christianity.

The tour begins with a coach trip leaving from Restaurante Salones Castillo de la Cruz at 10.00 and will be held only if at least 10 people sign up to take part. It is completely free of charge but prior registration is required online here.
