May 26 to June 4 Greater amberjack gastronomy festival in Aguilas
The “lecha” caught off the coast of Águilas is particularly tender and tasty!
The town of Águilas is rightly proud of its gastronomic and culinary traditions, and between May 26 and June 4 another gastronomic event is being held, this time in celebration of the locally caught and prepared “Lecha”, or greater amberjack.
A series of local restaurants are taking part - Restaurante La Veleta, Resto-bar Arrecife, Trapería la Tercena, Restaurante Ginés, Restaurante La Chimenea, Restaurante Costa Azul, Restaurante Zoco del Mar, Restaurante Saboreando el Cielo, Restaurante Tiburón and Restaurante MaR-uska - and the “Jornadas Gastronómicas de la Lecha” are also being supported by special offers provided by the Don Pancho tourist boat and the Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel. Those showing receipts for the special menus at the restaurant are entitled to special discounts both at the hotel and on the tourist boat.
The peak season for amberjack in Águilas, where some locals refer to it as the “lemon fish” (pez limón), is the spring, when the soft white meat is at its tenderest, most nutritious and tastiest. Each restaurant is offering a menu featuring various dishes in which the fish is a main ingredient, with menu prices set at between 35 and 60 euros.
The only exception is the Restaurante MaR-uska, which is serving an amberjack-based tapa for 15.90 euros: click here for full restaurant menus (in Spanish) and the dates on which they are available.
