Kitesurfer dies off the coast of La Manga
Three fellow surfers brought the body to shore after spotting the man face down in the water
A man died while kitesurfing off the coast of La Manga del Mar Menor this Thursday afternoon, April 10, after being found face down in the water near the Playa Ensenada del Esparto beach.The emergency services were alerted at around 3.18pm by beachgoers who spotted a person floating approximately 250 metres from the shore on the Mediterranean side of the La Manga strip. The man did not have his board with him, and his kite was seen dragging him further out to sea.
Three other surfers who were on the beach at the time quickly entered the water and swam out to retrieve him. They brought the man back to shore, where officers from the Local Police attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Despite their efforts, the man could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.
The regional emergency coordination centre, 112, also activated the Salvamento Marítimo rescue vessel Punta de Algas, although it did not ultimately intervene.
