Cedacero road between Mazarrón and Cartagena to be fixed... again

The work begins to repair the damage caused by the rains on the Cedacero road in Cartagena will start on Monday

The Region of Murcia government is starting work to repair the RME-22 Cedacero road between Cartagena and Mazarrón which was damaged by the heavy rainfall on Tuesday March 4.

A section of the road at kilometre 10.650 has collapsed under the rains, despite the fact that it was only recently renovated to the tune of nearly half a million euros. This winding stretch of road provides access to Isla Plana and La Azohía, and the heavy rains caused the pavement to subside, creating dangerous conditions and raising concerns about the durability of the works.

On Thursday March 27, the signposting in the area was repaired, while the real work to start fixing the road itself begins on Monday March 31.

The work has a budget of €50,000 and a completion period of 15 days, so it should be completed just before the Easter puente. It could not be undertaken before, according to sources from Cartagena City Council, until the rain had stopped completely and the ground had time to dry out.

Once the repair work starts in the area on Monday, an alternative route will be set up, so it will not be necessary to cut off traffic on the road. Although the work will be properly signposted, the Directorate General for Roads in Cartagena is asking drivers to take extreme caution and to heed the instructions of the personnel working in the area.
