AP-7 tunnel in Pilar de la Horadada shuts again for improvement works
Drivers will be diverted to the N-332 as €3.5 million lighting upgrade gets underway

Just a couple of months after the road reopened following a fatal truck crash in May, the AP-7 tunnel in Pilar de la Horadada has been shut again until September 23.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility confirmed that the closures are linked to a €3.5 million project aimed at improving energy efficiency and safety in the tunnel through intelligent lighting management.
The work is being funded by the European Union’s Next Generation recovery fund.
To carry out the upgrades, the AP-7 towards Alicante has already been completely closed from Monday morning, September 8. From 7am on September 22, the Cartagena-bound carriageway will also be shut. Both closures are due to end at 6pm on September 23.
To keep traffic moving during this disruption, vehicles are being diverted to the N-332 dual carriage-way, which runs parallel to the motorway between the San Pedro del Pinatar/Pilar de la Horadada junction and the Pilar de la Horadada junction.
During this period, crews will be installing new tunnel control and safety systems, which require a full closure of the tunnel lanes.
