AlertCops app in Spain soon to be available in French, German, Italian and Portuguese

If you need to contact the police in Spain, you can do so by calling 112, which is the emergency number equivalent to 911 in the USA and 999 in the UK, or you can contact the Spanish police using the ‘AlertCops’ app.

In 2014, the Ministry of the Interior, via the Secretary of State for Security, launched this app to make it easier for people “to communicate with the State Security Forces and Corps to alert them of possible criminal and risk situations”.

AlertCops serves as a two-way channel between citizens and police forces, and allows for easy and intuitive sending of geolocated police alerts from a smartphone. You can report a crime in real time and with precise location detail, whether you are a victim or witness, and receive quick and efficient help from the relevant emergency service.

This system also guarantees access to the services offered to people with some kind of hearing disability. In addition, it allows foreign citizens, who are visiting Spain on holiday or who live in the country, to access emergency help in their own language to access its services.

AlertCops is currently available in English, and other languages such as French, German, Italian and Portuguese will be added soon.

To download the application, all you have to do is register as a new user and turn on the location services on your phone, after which you will receive a text message with a validation code. From that moment on, you can select the alert you want to send from the icon menu.

"Alertcops" is available for Android on the Google Play Store and for Apple iOS on the App Store and is free to download.
