ARCHIVED - Update: torrential rain closes more roads in the Costa Cálida
A night of unrelenting rain brings more disruption to the Region of Murcia
A night of unrelenting torrential rain in many parts of the Region of Murcia has brought about more road closures on Tuesday morning, many of them in coastal areas, following the disruption caused by rain and snow in the Costa Cálida on Monday.
As of 8.00 on Tuesday morning the roads belonging to the regional network which were closed to traffic were the following:
- The RM703 in Moratalla
- The Carretera de El Mojón in San Pedro del Pinatar (RMF33)
- The road between Cehegín and La Paca (RM504)
- The road from Bullas to Aledo (RM503)
- The road from Balsicas to Los Alcázares (RMF26)
- The RMF29 between Torre Pacheco and San Javier
- The Murciabound carriagegway of the Autovía del Mar Menor (RM-19) was partially closed with very slow traffic
- The RMF24 at the Dos Mares shopping mall in San Javier
- The RMF25 between Lo Romero and San Pedro del Pinatar
- The RMF22 between Balsicas and Torre Pacheco
- The RMF23 between San Cayetano and El Mirador in San Javier
- The RMF35 between San Javier and La Puebla
Apart from these many other local roads are bound to be flooded after the unremitting downpour in many areas of Murcia during the night, and as dawn broke on Tuesday the local police in the city of Murcia were already informing that the road alongside the rambla in Espinardo and the Vereda del Gallego in Torreagüera were closed.
At the same time on the shore of the Mar Menor numerous urban streets are under water in Los Alcázares and San Javier, and in Los Alcázares the Town Hall has announced that administrative offices will be closed all day in order to discourage residents from risking their safety by venturing out into the streets to complete paperwork.
With more rain forecast during the day all drivers are urged to exercise great caution and the recommendation is to avoid taking the car if possible.
