ARCHIVED - Treasure trove of early 11th century Andalusian jewellery on display at Córdoba museum until June
The collection, which will be on display for more than 3 months, includes 623 pieces that were found on an estate in Baena
A collection of Andalusian jewellery dating back to the beginning of the 11 th century which was
found on La Amarguilla estate in Baena (Córdoba) a year ago has been presented at Córdoba’s
Archaeological Museum and will be on display there from 25 February until 6 June.
The pieces, which have been carefully studied and restored, are evidence of the historical
legacy on which one of the fundamental pillars of Córdoba's economy was based: the city's
jewellery and silver sector.
The collection, dubbed the ‘La Amarguilla Treasure’, is unique for its size, quality, and
condition, and includes 98 pieces of gold, silver, and gold-plated silver, 14 beads of hard stones
- quartz and rock crystal - 4 cylindrical beads of pink coral, 31 cylindrical beads of glass paste
and 476 irregular pearls.
The display will be open to the public for visits at the Museum of Archaeology of Córdoba until
6 June and the opening hours are currently from 9 am to 6 pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays, and
from 9 am to 3 pm on Sundays and Holidays. The museum remains closed on Mondays.
