The AFS S RANGE S-840 full carbon salom windfoil
AFS Windfoil S-840 salom front wing is designed to perform in slalom sessions, at all speeds and in all conditions. In three words: SENSATION, CONTROL, SPEED
The S range front wings are characterized with moderate power and stability, allowing them to still point far up into the wind. Their design and geometry is designed for maximum glide with stable control.
At the heart of a slalom program is to give maximum speed with ease of handling in all points of sailing. You can expect a smooth and predictable jibe as the steering is precise and dynamic.
Nevertheless, they remain efficient upwind and are an asset on long distance courses.

A Silver Surfer review. On first sight of the Afs S-840 slalom front wing, you notice the width and the turned down tips. It is also quite slim with a light curve that speaks of speed and control. As expected from Afs windfoils, this carbon wing is perfectly constructed giving you strength and durability.
The Afs S-840 salom front wing is matched with the 280 back wing and fits all current 85, 95 and 105 shaft sizes.
In testing, this wing was used on all three shaft Tbar lengths 85,95 and 105 in winds from 13 to 20 knots, in moderately flat conditions. All I can report is what a well controlled and confortable experience. No matter the shaft used, it excellated well to get up on the foil with ease. I was using a 6.2 sail size as the wind was 13 knots on starting but climbed to 20 knots while testing. As the wind speed climbed, the foil took it in its stride and accelerated smoothly giving you confidence and a sense of control even when starting to get over powered.
The Jibe with the turned down tips of the S-840 was like being on rails and the wing kept good lift while gliding through the sail rotation and foot change.
Sailing up wind as described is controlled and confortable. My test board is 85 cm wide so I was not able to achieve it full potential but I am sure that combined with the wider foil dedicated boards and longer masts you should expect excellent result close to that of the race wings.
I do not have a gps speed measurement from the test but the feeling was a fast and free wing easily controlled. I would happilly use this as my go to wing from 8 to 20 knots and feel that this is an excellent option for your all round foil.
The only thing to be aware of for these wider slimmer foils, is that when water starting or dismounting the board, you need to be extra aware of the potential to strike or kick the front wing.
