ARCHIVED - Storm Gloria leaves 2 metres of snow at the top of Sierra Espuña
Many parts of the Region of Murcia received around 60 millimetres of rain on Tuesday
With the rain and snow of Storm Gloria now having all but died in the Region of Murcia it is reported that the depth of the snow which has fallen since Sunday in the highest parts of the Sierra Espuña, at over 1,500 metres above sea level, has reached two metres.
Elsewhere in remote rural areas of Moratalla such as Campo de San Juan depths of up to 70 centimetres have accumulated, and in Inazares and Benizar the snow is lying around 30 centimetres deep.
As for rainfall, meanwhile, the highest rainfall figures reported by Aemet and the CHS on Tuesday were above 60 millimetres in Cartagena, Moratalla and San Javier, while in the regional capital the combined total over Monday and Tuesday also reached 60 millimetres.
To put that into context, the historical average for rainfall in the city of Murcia for the whole of the month of January is 27 millimetres!
It is possible that the figures may increase still further by the end of the month, with more rain forecast for Saturday although nothing like the amount which has fallen over the last three days.
