Six arrested in Asturias for violent robberies targeting elderly residents
The suspects assaulted elderly victims in their homes, stealing cash and valuables before being tracked down by the Guardia Civil

The arrests occurred in various locations: two individuals, aged 23 and 22, were detained in Muros del Nalón; two others, aged 31 and 23, in Avilés; a 41-year-old in La Felguera (Langreo); and a 54-year-old in Amieva.
These arrests are part of the ongoing 'Ariete' investigation, initiated by the Guardia Civil of Asturias a year ago to address several violent home robberies.
The first reported incident took place in late January 2024, when three masked individuals broke into the home of two residents in Las Regueras, both around 90 years old. The assailants forcefully stole money and jewellery, leaving the victims with multiple bruises. Two suspects, aged 27 and 41, from San Martín del Rey Aurelio, were identified as the perpetrators.
Another incident occurred on January 5 this year, involving a 66-year-old resident of Navia. Four individuals broke into his home, assaulted him, and threatened him with a large knife, resulting in injuries to his neck and hand. They demanded a specific sum of money, and when the victim couldn't comply, they seized €650, a shotgun with cartridges, approximately thirty pocket watches, various rings, personal documents and a collection of 1 and 5 peseta coins.
Investigations revealed the presence of a BMW 320 near the victim's home on the night of the Navia robbery. This vehicle was regularly used by a resident of San Martín del Rey Aurelio, who was already under investigation for the Las Regueras robbery. Another frequent passenger was a resident of Avilés with a substantial criminal record. This connection led authorities to link both incidents.
Given the severity of these crimes, on February 25, the authorities arrested five individuals: two in Muros del Nalón, two in Avilés, and one in San Martín del Rey Aurelio. Searches of their residences yielded further evidence, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of another individual involved in the Navia robbery.
The Guardia Civil highlighted the dangerous nature of some suspects. One individual from Muros del Nalón attempted to evade arrest by jumping from a window over two metres high during the night. Another suspect from San Martín del Rey Aurelio, arrested in La Felguera, was found carrying three concealed knives.
All six detainees have been presented before the Courts of Pravia, Avilés, Langreo and Cangas de Onís. The investigation remains active and further arrests have not been ruled out.
