ARCHIVED - San Javier fairground area to be used as Covid-19 mass vaccination centre for Mar Menor residents
Residents from the municipalities of San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Los Alcázares will all be given their vacciness at the centre
In order to speed up the vaccination of all 75 to 79-year-olds living in the surrounding areas, the San Javier fairground, located in the Polígono el Pino, will be used as a Covid-19 mass vaccination centre from next Friday (April 9).
Around 2,500 people from San Javier, and from the surrounding municipalities of San Pedro del Pinatar and Los Alcázares, will receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine in the centre, which will be staffed by 12 to 16 sanitary technicians from the regional health system, as well as 061 ambulance teams.
However, residents in La Manga del Mar Menor will not receive their immunizations in this centre as they are registered under the municipality of Cartagena, which corresponds to Health Area II.
The centre has scheduled around 70 vaccinations every 15 minutes starting from 9 am on Friday and carrying on until mid-afternoon, when all 2,500 people aged between 75 and 79 should have received their dose.
People within the age bracket and who are registered with health services in any of these three municipalities will be sent their appointment details via a text message on their mobile phones and displaced residents will also be contacted if they have previously registered as such and have their identifying number provided by the health services in the Region of Murcia.
The fairground (recinto ferial) will continue to be used as a vaccination centre for the next few months in accordance with the number and type of vaccines that are available each week. If the expected vaccine shipments continue to arrive as scheduled, everyone over the age of 50 in the Mar Menor area should be vaccinated by June.
The health service has reiterated that anyone registered with the regional health authority will be vaccinated as their age group is reached and has urged residents to ensure that their local health centre has correct contact details, in particular up-to-date mobile phone contact details.
