article_detailResidential property in Molina de Segura
The most attractive areas are the town centre and developments like Altorreal and La Alcayna
In terms of population Molina de Segura is the fourth largest of the 45 municipalities in the Region of Murcia, with over 70,000 inhabitants, and as such it inevitably offers a broad spectrum of residential properties to suit almost all kinds of buyer.
Over the years Molina has ceased to be a major industrial production centre in its own right, although some important manufacturing companies do remain, and instead some districts have become akin to “dormitory towns” for the regional capital of Murcia. The town may not have the same prestige in terms of historical importance or monumental buildings as Murcia, Cartagena or Lorca, but as a place to live it is comfortable both in size and, for the most part, in the kind of homes available.
The main town offers a wide variety of flats, apartments and townhouses, some old and some new, with perhaps the most sought-after being the spacious apartments on the central pedestrian street of Paseo Rosales and the recently built edge-of-town chalets in the eastern outskirts of the town centre. But many of the most attractive properties, particularly in the eyes of non-Spanish buyers, are to be found in the out-of-town residential developments of Altorreal, La Alcayna, Los Olivos and Los Conejos, which are in the hills further east of Molina and are also easily accessible from the city Murcia.
Altorreal is probably the most visually attractive of these areas due to the presence of the golf course in this hilly development, one of the oldest courses in the Region of Murcia apart from those at La Manga Club, and on all of these developments private or communal pools and garden areas are the norm. Unlike some of the “resort” developments nearer the coast they are well populated all year round – Altorreal is not a “golf resort”, it is a residential development with a golf course - and are therefore serviced by adequate shops, schools, pharmacies and other facilities. The larger the development, the truer this is, but in general they are much easier to live on in this respect than can be the case on the resorts closer to the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor.
At the same time, of course, these properties are not actually far from the sea: San Javier airport is only 40 minutes by car from Altorreal, to give an example (Alicante-Elche 50 minutes) and the coastal towns and cities of Cartagena, Torrevieja and Mazarrón are also comfortably within an hour’s reach. But their location also gives easy access to the regional capital of Murcia (approximately 15 minutes to the city centre) and to the rest of the Region, as well as to the provinces of Alicante, Albacete and beyond, as the A-30 Murcia-Madrid motorway runs between Molina and Altorreal. The national capital is not much more than three hours up the road!
