Regular ferry service from Santiago de la Ribera to La Manga del Mar Menor
The ferry operates an all year-round service between La Manga del Mar Menor and Santiago de la Ribera
Note: The ferry is closed indefinitely as of December 2022
Mar Menor Ferry operates a ferry service between La Manga del Mar Menor on the La Manga strip and the coastal area of Santiago de la Ribera 6 days a week, from Monday to Saturday. This provides a fast and enjoyable way to explore the other side of the Mar Menor.
The Mar Menor covers a surface area of 170 square kilometres, so although it is possible to drive from the "mainland" section of the San Javier around the outside of the lagoon and up the La Manga strip to La Manga del Mar Menor, those without vehicles, or those who prefer a more leisurely pace of travel, may prefer to use the ferry service which links these two distinct sections of the municipality, on opposite sides of the Mar Menor. (See map of San Javier)
Visitors with holiday accommodation on La Manga del Mar Menor will find it more economical to take a taxi or bus from the Murcia-San Javier airport to the ferry point at Santiago de la Ribera, and then take the ferry across, rather than driving around the outside. There are regular bus services along the La Manga strip in both directions (see public transport for more information).
The journey takes 40 minutes and departs from the Club Naútico in Santiago de la Ribera, the coastal area of the San Javier municipality, arriving at the Puerto Tomas Maestre in La Manga del Mar Menor. Tickets can be purchased on board for the price of 10€.
The timetable changes regularly, so be sure to check the times before making any travel plans. The most recent timetable is as follows:
Departures from Santiago de la Ribera:
Monday to Saturday at 11:30, 13:30 and 17:30. There is an extra service on Wednesdays at 15:30.
Departures from La Manga (Puerto Tomas Maestre):
Monday to Saturday at 10:30, 12:30 and 16:30. There is an extra sevice on Wednesdays at 15:00.
Visit the ferry's website, www.marmenorferry.com, or call (+34) 649 201 610 for more information.
NB: During the summer festival season, extra services are laid on for those attending the San Javier Jazz Festival and the Festival of Theatre and Dance (see What's on section for programmes).
