ARCHIVED - Rainer Splitt opens Chromotopia at the Sala Verónicas in Murcia

The central work is the largest “poured piece” ever created by the artist

On Thursday in one of the most interesting venues for staging art exhibitions in the region, the Sala Verónicas, the former church of Las Verónicas, the exhibition 'Chromotopia' by German artist Rainer Splitt, curated by María Ángeles Sánchez,opens for visitors.

The works go beyond the dimensional limit of traditional painting, interacting with the architecture of the room and the visitor.

The exhibition brings together 33 works, with a large central piece, an unmissable poured pool of black in the centre of the room, acting as the common thread and union of the entire exhibition. Measuring 11.52x3.39 meters, the black poured pool in the center of the Room is a tribute to the use of this color by Velázquez, who used black to give volume to his painting and to bring the figures out of his works and firmly into the space of the viewer .

The exhibition includes pieces created this year for the exhibition, as well as emblematic works made by the artist during this century. Rainer Splitt's work has gradually evolved from 1988, when he began with three-dimensional objects, to his first poured paintings in 1990, stains of color, paint mixing and synthetic emulsions that spill onto a surface and emerge as intense shapes of a great luminosity, a hybrid between painting and sculpture.

To guarantee safety distancing (and to make sure that crowds don´t spill over into the the Splitt spill), only ten visitors at a time are allowed into the Veronicas exhibition room.

Visiting hours are from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Sundays and holidays the sala is only open in the morning, and is closed to the public on Mondays.
