ARCHIVED - Police investigating cause of fire in Camposol squatter vehicles
The two vehicles belonged to squatters who had movied into an unoccupied property
Police are investigating the cause of a fire which destroyed two vehicles, a Berlingo van and a silver Mercedes belonging to squatters who had moved into an empty property on the Camposol Urbanisation in Mazarrón on Saturday evening just after 21:00.
The property, on the A Sector of the urbanisation, in Calle Barcelona, is now reported to be empty again and the gate padlocked.
Camposol is not an enclosed urbanisation, and has no perimeter security fence, so for that reason properties left lying empty for considerable periods of time are more vulnerable to squatters than on other urbanisations which are fully enclosed by security fences.
As a result, the urbanisation periodically reports squatters moving in to unoccupied premises, although normally the vigilant neighbours ensure that police and the council are notified and measures are taken to rectify the situation as rapidly as possible.
Fortunately, the urbanisation has a large resident population although there are inevitably empty properties due to the fact that many of the houses are owned by foreign nationals for holiday purposes.
There are also some properties which have never been occupied for a variety of reasons.
