ARCHIVED - Online purchasers in Spain spent 239,505 million euros last year
Online sales and purchases were up last year by 8.5 per cent and 15.9 per cent respectively.
Figures published by the national government’s central statistics bureau this week show that the amount of turnover generated by Spanish companies through online sales last year increased by 8.5 per cent to 281,638 million euros.
At the same time, the amount bought online by purchasers in Spain (which is not the same due to the web crossing international borders) increased even more sharply by 15.9 per cent to 239,505 million euros.
As lifestyles and business models evolve it is reported that last year 20.4 per cent of businesses with at least 10 staff made online sales, only a slight increase over the proportion of 19.6 per cent in 2017, and that online sales accounted for 17.3 per cent of their turnover during the year.
On the other hand, more companies and businesses appear to be using the internet for purchases than for sales, with the proportions in this case reaching 33.9 per cent of businesses and 21.3 per cent of all purchases.
Among smaller businesses, with fewer than 10 staff, only 5.8 per cent made online sales and 17.5 per cent used the internet for purchases.
