ARCHIVED - New cases and hospitalisations start to rise in Murcia region; Covid April 6, 2021
Three fatalities were reported, the highest figure in a month
The latest covid data published by the Murcia regional health authority on Tuesday April 6 (data collected at midnight on Monday 5) reflects a renewed rise in new cases, active cases, hospitalisations and deaths within the latest 24 hour period.
On Monday a total of 102 new cases of Covid-19 were reported; 29 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 19 to Puerto Lumbreras, 12 to Cartagena, 6 to Cieza, 5 to San Javier, 4 to Lorca, 4 to Molina de Segura, 3 to Torre Pacheco and the remainder are spread around the region in smaller quantities.
Personnel from the health service carried out 2,544 PCR and antigen tests, yielding a positivity rate of around 4%.
These latest diagnoses take the total number of active cases in the region back up to 622, which is 54 more than the previous day. Only 45 people were given the all clear on Monday, as a result of which the active cases increased.
Image 2 shows new cases at the top and hospitalisations below, clearly showing the evolution of the pandemic.
Of the 622, the majority of patients, 523, have only mild cases or are asymptomatic, but must still quarantine at home. The remaining 99 patients have more severe cases and require hospital treatment; 31 of these are in intensive care units, slightly increasing the pressure on the health service once again.
After a Sunday without deaths, three fatalities due to the virus were reported on Monday. The two men and one woman, aged 55,73 and 74 were from Murcia city, Cartagena and Archena.
Last Tuesday there were also three deaths and these two days are the highest fatality figures recorded within the last month, since March 9, when seven deaths were recorded. The total number of covid-related deaths since the pandemic began now stands at 1,574.
