Murcia unveils €14 million plan to modernise three health centres
Residents in Alhama, Santomera and Yecla are set to benefit from larger health centres and new medical services over the next three years

The Murcia regional government has approved a major €14 million investment programme aimed at expanding and modernising health centres in Alhama de Murcia, Santomera and Yecla, in a move set to benefit around 57,000 residents.
The projects, which are expected to be completed within the next three years, form part of the Region of Murcia’s Primary Care Improvement Strategy and infrastructure investment plan designed to improve healthcare services and working conditions for medical professionals.
Regional government spokesperson Marcos Ortuño said the investment responds to growing demand from both patients and healthcare staff, with the goal of creating larger, more modern facilities capable of offering a wider range of services.
In Alhama de Murcia, the local health centre will effectively double in size. Plans include 17 additional consultation rooms, including facilities for the Primary Care Emergency Service, along with a new physiotherapy area featuring three treatment cubicles.
Santomera’s health centre is also set for a major transformation. The existing building will be renovated and expanded from 1,817 square metres to 2,627 square metres, allowing for more consultation rooms and the introduction of new services including physiotherapy, dentistry and a women’s health unit.
Meanwhile, the Yecla-East Mariano Yago health centre will undergo a large scale expansion and full refurbishment. The project includes the construction of a new annex building and two additional extension modules before the existing facility is remodelled. Once complete, the centre will grow from around 1,600 square metres to more than 3,000 square metres.
Regional officials say the expanded facilities will improve patient care while adapting services to meet modern healthcare needs across the region.
The investment package approved this week also includes a further €22 million earmarked for biological medicines and blood products.
In addition, the regional government has extended collaboration agreements with 17 municipalities across Murcia to continue providing home care services for dependent residents.
The programme, worth almost €15.7 million, will support more than 2,500 people who currently rely on home assistance services in municipalities including Cartagena, Murcia, Lorca, San Pedro del Pinatar, Torre Pacheco and Alhama de Murcia.

What is Montessori?
The Montessori method departs from traditional teaching practices by placing the child’s interests, capacity to choose and natural abilities at the heart of the learning environment, rather than focusing on fitting all students into rigid, one-size-fits-all boxes. It is so popular with parents because it recognises their children as individuals and nurtures their natural curiosity in a collaborative way.
“CHARACTER CANNOT BE TAUGHT, AS IT COMES FROM EXPERIENCE, NOT FROM EXPLANATION.”
– Maria Montessori
