A little thing which may interest art lovers.
The name José María Párraga came up during the summer when an exhibition held at the MURAM in Cartagena featured drawings made by this artist, which as an exhibition was possibly not the most eyecatching ever held at the museum, as it was dedicated to his line drawings rather than the astonishing works he actually created from them.
During the exhibition we started trying to track down the actual murals and discovered one in a local school in Alhama, which filled the wall with colour and life, and which the tourist office were happy to arrange for us to visit, and we´ve just been sent a little release saying that another has been restored in a school in Archena, thanks to funds from the Cajamurcia obra social programme.
This mural is 12 metres long, 2.65 metres high and shows children playing, with a big smiling sun, plants , flowers and birds in the background, so typical of the type of work being done by Párraga in schools and public buildings.
If you´re in the area and interested in art, it´s always worth asking if you can see it.
It´s in the Colegio Público ‘El Río in Archena.
Archena tourist office can be contacted on 968 674 738.
We also spotted a Párraga in the Fuente Alamo museum, which has a very good collection of interesting pieces, but receives very little traffic , which is a real shame.
The 2 images shown below were taken at Alhama de Murcia in the school there, so you can clearly see the similarity in the pieces.
