ARCHIVED - Mula police break up meal attended by more than 40 people
The participants had driven from all over the region to vote in Bolivian elections in Murcia before driving to Mula to eat together
A member of the public advised police that covid prevention measures were not being observed
On Sunday the Local Police of Mula were called to the old football pitch of the town when a member of the public called-in to advise police that a gathering was taking place which contravened the “group of 6” anti-covid restrictions.
At about 2:00 p.m., the agents received a call and duly investigated, finding more than forty people sitting at seven tables (some with more than six people), eating and drinking from plastic plates and cups, without respecting the established individual hygiene and prevention measures. Of the 44 people identified at the site, only 18 of them resided in Mula. The rest came from different areas (12 from Torre Pacheco, 5 from Murcia, 3 from Totana, 1 from Caravaca, 1 from San Javier, 1 from Ceutí and 1 from the Almeria town of Antas).
Those gathered reported that they had driven from Murcia City all the way to Mula to eat together after going to the Thader shopping center in Murcia City to vote in the Bolivian presidential elections, where a voting point had been set up to enable the Bolivian population of the region to vote.
The Councillor for Citizen Security of Mula City Council, Diego J. Boluda, thanked the public for advising the police about the event and said that sanctions would be issued accordingly.
This type of event highlights the complacency of the public towards Covid and shows how easily transmission can take place in spite of the best efforts of the authorities to contain the virus. There were many reports at the weekend of covid measures not being respected across Spain.
