The high-speed rail link should join Almería and Murcia by 2026
Work on the high-speed AVE train line joining Murcia’s Lorca and the province of Almería is “more than 50 percent” done, according to an announcement from the general director of ADIF Alta Velocidad, Juan Pablo Villanueva, this Thursday November 30.
In total, three of the four planned stages of the works currently underway are stretches between Pulpí and Río Andarax, which comprise 69 kilometres of linear earthworks which are more than halfway done.
The government subdelegate in Almería, José María Martín, said, “The government has committed itself to connect Murcia with the high-speed line by 2026,” a time scale they are confident of achieving.
Part of this will involve knocking down the Almería station footbridge as soon as in a week’s time, just after the December long weekend, so that the construction of the provisional bus station can begin.
