ARCHIVED - More Bulgarian and Czech tourists heading for La Manga and the Mar Menor this year
8,500 visitors from eastern Europe are to spend 70,000 nights in the Costa Cálida
The Tourism department of the Region of Murcia has finalized agreements this week with Czech and Bulgarian tour operators by which 8,500 visitors will spend 70,000 nights in La Manga and the Mar Menor area this year, most of them during the spring and autumn, when they will provide a welcome contribution to the efforts to de-seasonalize the sector in the Costa Cálida.
According to the regional government these deals will help to reactivate tourism after the heavy storms which affected the coastline of Murcia in September and December 2019 and January of this year.
The agreements were signed when staff from the Instituto de Turismo de la Región de Murcia travelled to Eastern Europe to meet representatives of the Bohemia and Profi Tours agencies from Bulgaria and Delfin, Quality Tour and Fischer from the Czech Republic, and in both cases the number of visitors is being increased after the success of last year’s campaigns. In consequence, there will be more charter flights operating between Prague and Bulgaria in the east and the Region of Murcia International Airport in Corvera in the Costa Cálida.
During the visit to Bulgaria a presentation was made to 60 travel agencies at the Holiday World tourism fair in Prague, and at the same time it has been confirmed that at the Fitur fair in Madrid in January another agreement was signed to bring Austrian tourists to Murcia in 2021. In this case the collaborating operator is Iris Tours Vacances, who will be bringing around 4,800 tourists to the Costa Cálida next year on charter flights during the off season.
