ARCHIVED - Moratalla resident faces charges as 100 animals are found dead and in terrible conditions
More than 100 domestic animals and livestock were found in the property
A Moratalla resident faces charges of maltreating animals after agents from the SEPRONA division of the Guardia Civíl obtained a license to search premises in which animals were reportedly being kept in appalling conditions.
Inside the house shocked agents found more than 100 animals, some of them dead and in various stages of decomposition, including animals frequently kept for food such as rabbits, chickens, doves and even a pig, as well as goldfinches, cats and dogs.
There was no food or water available.
Some of the animals were still alive and have been handed over to a Mazarrón protectorate, and the El Valle wildlife recovery centre, and the animals kept for food have been put down due to the hygiene risk they presented.
The collaboration of the public in preventing animal cruelty is vital in the work undertaken by SEPRONA and the Guardia Civíl have yet again urged anyone aware of the abandonment of or maltreatment of animals to share this information so that it can be prevented. News items such as this are shared expressly to make the public aware that should reports of abuse be received, then they can be acted on and animals recued from this type of situation.
