Local Police attend another squatter incident on the Camposol urbanisation
Neighbours thwart another attempted squatter incident in Camposol with Police praising speedy reporting
A quick response by neighbours frustrated an attempt to occupy a property on the perimeter road of polígono D7 in the Camposol urbanisation, following 3 previous attempts in the previous weeks. This was a timely intervention by local residents who alerted the Police on the 112 emergency call number and resulted in the perpetrators being evicted from the property.
The property in question has been abandoned for some considerable time. It may even be that the villa has never been occupied since it was built around 20 years ago, but local police praised the actions of local residents saying “Thanks to the Citizen Collaboration we were able to avoid usurpation”.
The police statement went on “In addition, the closure of the building was requested by municipal services and it was brought to the notice of the Guardia Civil Inspector to continue with the actions. Before any incident call the emergency telephone 1-1-2”.
This incident follows 3 recent previous incidents, one on Camposol’s C Sector South and two others elsewhere in the urbanisation.
Squatting is a widespread problem common to all areas and the Regional Government has passed laws making it easier for illegal squatters to be evicted, but fast action is essential in reporting a squatter incident with the first 48 hours being crucial, the emergency telephone number 112 should be used in the first instance.
An anonymous reporting channel has also been set up by phone on 968 377 000 and email alertaokupa@carm.es where full information should be supplied in Spanish to identify the home and its location, such as the address of the property (number, street, floor, urbanisation etc) and the municipality in which the property is located.
The Regional Authority has also published two information booklets about the matter one giving information on how to deal with a squatter incursion and the other gives steps that can be taken to prevent it happening in the first place.
Mazarrón Council has also passed a bylaw giving communities of owners more power to act where a property has been occupied in their community.
