ARCHIVED - Infections rebound continues: Valencia Covid update October 25
562 new cases and four deaths reported as active cases in Alicante and the rest of the region rise to 2,492
The upward trend in the number of daily cases continues in the Valencia region with 562 new infections reported over the weekend – 53 more than the previous Monday.
Whilst new daily and active cases have increased, the number of hospital admissions has fallen slightly, as has the number of critically ill Covid-19 patients in ICU.
Despite the continued rise in infections over the last week, the regional president, Ximo Puig, has confirmed that, in the short term at least, the government "is not considering" introducing new anti-Covid measures.
A breakdown of today's Covid data shows:
New cases
A further 562 new cases have been reported over the weekend, up from 239 on Friday October 22 and 509 a week ago, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 514,002. By province: 169 in Castellón (54,089 in total); 165 in Alicante (188,548) and 228 in Valencia (271,364).
Recoveries
290 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 515,125 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 54,074 in Castellón; 188,402 in Alicante; and 272,593 in Valencia. There are 56 unassigned recoveries.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 186 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, down from 191 on Friday, 49 of whom are being treated in ICUs (three less since the last update): 60 in the province of Castellón, 11 in ICU; 78 in the province of Alicante, 28 in ICU; and 48 in the province of Valencia, 10 of them in ICU.
Fatalities
There has been four reported deaths which occurred in the last seven days. The Ministry of Health has confirmed the victims were aged 70, 75, 79 and 89-years-old. The fatalities means the total now stands at 7,831 since the start of the pandemic: 851 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 3,005 in Alicante; and 3,975 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
There has been no update on the number of vaccinations, but as of Friday, a total of 4,068,497 people had received one dose of vaccine, and 4,024,892 people were fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen. In addition, 39,451 booster doses had been administered to 'at risk' people with pathologies and elderly in residential homes.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 2,492 1,836 active cases in the community (up from 2,224 on Friday), which represents 0.47% of the total positives, 0.12% higher than the last update
Outbreaks
There have been one outbreak with 10 or more associated cases, reported in Nules with 12 infections of 'social origin'.
