ARCHIVED - Five Guys famous burger joint opens in Murcia city
The iconic American chain opened its doors this week in Plaza Santo Domingo
Barack Obama’s favourite burger joint, the famous all-American Five Guys, has finally opened its doors in Murcia after years of requests. Located in the Plaza Santa Domingo, the fast food restaurant with a difference welcomed its first customers on Monday November 21 and the popular diner was packed out from the word ‘go’.
Thirty years after the family affair began, Five Guys currently has almost 1,700 locations nationwide, 24 of which are satisfying countless hungry patrons across Spain.
“We are very excited, we had been waiting a long time to land in Murcia and today the dream has finally come true. I think it has been the city that has had the most demand on social networks, they have been writing to us for years. So, here it is, Five Guys has arrived. Enjoy it!” the company's CEO, Daniel Agromayor, said at the opening.
The chain prides itself on producing hand-crafted burgers cooked in healthier peanut oil, but the real stand-out feature it that customers can customise their patties, sandwiches, hot-dogs and fries with 15 different ingredients including the old staples like mayo and grilled onions as well as a fiery hot sauce and a variety of vegetables and salad items.
But Five Guys’s hallmark has to be their wacky milkshakes which can be made with everything from strawberries and salted caramel to bananas and bacon.
"I don't understand how you can like a mix like that," one Murcia mother laughed at her son's choice. But that’s why the fast food joint is so popular: it caters to every kind of palate imaginable.
The opening day in Murcia was a resounding success judging by the mammoth queues and the satisfied expressions of customers, and it’s certain that Five Guys will quickly become one of the most popular burger restaurants in the city.
