ARCHIVED - Fire at Garden Centre on Mazarrón-Totana road
The building went up in flames at 2.30 in the morning
Firemen are today carrying out an investigation into the cause of a fire in the middle of the night at the large garden centre/semilleros on the Mazarrón-Totana main road, just before the COAG depot and opposite the petrol station.
The 112 Emergency Services received the call-out at 02:38 on Friday morning, by which time the building was in flames.
The site was formerly a “semillero”, growing plantlets for the agricultural sector, but during the two-year period prior to the coronavirus pandemic had become a smart European-style garden centre, with extensive interior plant display areas.
The huge pall of smoke generated by the fire could be seen all over Totana and Policia Local, Guardia Civil, Protección Civil, nine vehicles belonging to firecrews from Alhama de Murcia, Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Lorca and Mazarrón all attended the call-out.
By half past four in the the morning the fire was brought under control and finally declared extinguished at half past eight in the morning.
