ARCHIVED - Coronavirus infections begin to drop: Murcia Covid update May 13
The cumulative incidence rate in over 60s continues to drop in the Murcia Region
The Region of Murcia has been following the trend of the rest of Spain in recent days, with infections and fatalities behaving in a very unstable manner. The worrying element, however, is hospitalisations, and in Murcia, both admissions to coronavirus wards and intensive care units have crept up since the last health report earlier this week.
Despite the upswing in Covid indicators, Spain’s Minister of Health is adamant that restrictions such as quarantine for positive patients won’t be introduced any time soon; on the contrary, Minister Darias is confident that the data will show "a trend towards a certain stabilisation" in the coming days.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia registered a further 695 coronavirus infections on Thursday May 12, which is a slight decrease on the previous day and brings the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 420,359.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate in over 60s has dropped to 1,540.30 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. While this is still far higher than the Spanish national average of 843, the 7-day rate is now at 737.69 cases – less than 50% – which is a strong indication that the numbers will continue to decrease.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 327 people admitted to hospital with Covid in the region, three more than the previous day, while 18 are being treated for more serious conditions in the ICUs (an increase of five).
Four more Covid-related fatalities have been registered in the last 24 hours, which takes the overall death toll in the Region since the start of the health crisis to 2,269.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.88% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.53% of people are now double jabbed.
Data at a glance from Thursday May 12:
Total positives diagnosed in the last 24-hour period: 695
Total of positive cases to date: 420,359
Positives cases in over 60s: 63,458
Hospitalisations: 327
Patients in intensive care: 18
Total fatalities to date: 2,269
Antigen/PCR tests carried out: 2,909,538
