ARCHIVED - British travel agents take part in special guided tour of Murcia to promote nature tourism
The Region of Murcia used the special organised trip to position itself as a top destination for cycling holidays
A group of specialised British tour operators took part in a trip to discover nature and active tourism in the Region of Murcia, organised by the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Tourism and Sports.
The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Spanish Tourist Office in London, aims to reactivate tourism from the United Kingdom to the Region after a lull caused by Covid-19 and position Murcia as a destination specialising in nature getaways.
The participating travel agents visited natural areas such as the Sierra Espuña Park, the Calblanque Regional Park, the Almadenes Canyon and the Ricote Valley, as well as networking with businessmen, guides and representatives of associations for rural tourism.
Murcia is actively trying to strengthen specific tourism products such as cycling holidays along such routes as the the Espuroad, Espubike routes, the Mediterranean Route or the 100 other cycle touring routes listed on the ‘Cycling friendly’ portal.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic and Brexit, the British remain the principal tourists in Murcia, with 70,187 visitors from January to September this year – 30.5% of all international travellers.
Currently, Murcia’s Corvera Airport has connections with Manchester airport, Birmingham and London Gatwick.
