ARCHIVED - Gota fría repairs being carried out in jobless training scheme in Los Urrutias and Los Nietos
The initiative aims to provide work experience and training for the unemployed in outlying districts of Cartagena
The local “Barrios ADLE” scheme run by the Town Hall of Cartagena to provide work experience and training for the unemployed is in full swing in Los Urrutias and Los Nietos, where those taking part are sprucing up public areas in the two towns after the flooding caused by the Gota Fría storm in mid-September.
The training courses which began on 16th October consist of theoretical instruction regarding work safety, construction, painting, plumbing and other fields, and practical work where the students put into practice what they have learnt in the towns where they live.
In Los Urrutias their tasks are to repair the garden and terrace at the Local Social, to re-paint the library and the basketball court at the same location, to improve the plants and gardens in the Plaza de México and to spruce up the Jardín del Trovo and the Plaza del Navegante. In Los Nietos, meanwhile, the work to be done includes the repainting and repair of benches in the parks of Plaza del Ancla, Plaza del Pescador and Plaza de San Miguel, and to repair areas where paving slabs have been damaged in various streets.
