ARCHIVED - 18th to 20th March, Hampshire v Warwickshire county cricket at La Manga Club
Pre-season friendlies in La Manga Club could feature Ian Bell, James Vince
Top county cricketers will be spending part of their pre-season at the European Cricket Performance Excellence Centre in La Manga Club with both Warwickshire and Hampshire visiting during March as they prepare to do battle in the First Division of the Country Championship starting in April.
Hampshire CCC have confirmed that the full playing squad and coaching staff will head to La Manga Club for a second successive pre-season, with the bowling group will arriving on Wednesday 11th March before all remaining squad members join them two days later. The full squad will then take part in a week-long training programme consisting of outdoor practice and strength and conditioning work before returning on 21st March.
The Warwickshire bowling unit will arrive earlier, on 6th March, for a dedicated conditioning programme, before the remaining members of the squad arrive on 10th March, and both counties end their stays with a two-day friendly on 18th and 19th March and two T20 games on the 20th.
Spectators are welcome at La Manga Club for these games, which represent a great opportunity for cricket fans to spend a day or two watching top-class players live. Whether the full squads will actually be present is not certain – Australian off spinner Nathan Lyon, contracted to Hampshire, must be a doubt, while Dom Sibley and Chris Woakes will be in Sri Lanka with England - but between them the two counties boast numerous other current and former internationals, including Ian Bell, Jeetan Patel, Olly Stone, Tim Ambrose, Kyle Abbott, Mason Crane, Liam Dawson, Fidel Edwards and James Vince.
Lovers of the classic cover drive will be hoping to see Bell and Vince in an elegance competition, and anyone thinking of staying in the prestigious surroundings of La Manga Club to enjoy a few days' cricket is advised to check the availability of rentals at La Quinta Club.
