Annual football tournament organised by Camposol Walking Football Club
Walking Football tournament pits 8 teams from various regions against each other
Following on from the success of last year’s tournament, on May 16 2024 Camposol Walking Football Club hosted their second annual tournament in Mazarrón, Murcia. The tournament was held at the Complejo Deportivo (between Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón) after Mazarrón Council gave permission for the municipal facility to be used.
A total of 8 teams entered from the Costa Blanca, Murcia and Andalucía. The tournament was sponsored by Rendezvous Restaurant Camposol and supported by the local town hall. After a day of exciting football where each team played 7 matches, the closely fought tournament was eventually won by Red Lion WFC from Fortuna in Murcia. Second was Portobello WFC from Campoverde in Alicante and third was The Hub WFC from Villamartin in Alicante. The full tournament positions were
1. Red Lion WFC - Fortuna, Murcia with 17 points
2. Portobello WFC - Campoverde, Alicante with 15 points
3. The Hub WFC - Orihuela Costa, Alicante with 14 points*
4. Formentera WFC - Formentera de Segura, Alicante with 14 points*
5. Camposol Walking FC - Mazarron, Murcia with 10 points
6. CF La Romana - Hondon de los Frailes, Alicante with 4 points
7. CD Walking Betis - Sevilla, Andalucía with 2 points
8. Hondon WFC - Hondon de los Frailes, Alicante with 1 point
*Although The Hub WFC and Formentera WFC accumulated the same points The Hub WFC took third spot by virture of a superior goal difference.
The trophies and medals were presented to the players by Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol, María del Carmen Navarro Paredes.
Next year’s tournament is already in the planning stages and is proposed to take place on Wednesday March 12, 2025.
Camposol Walking Football Club, which has men's and women's teams, is open to new players to join in the healthy fun and entertainment, why not give it a try, you can get in touch with them to enjoy the sport and exercise through their Facebook page or drop in for a chat at their training sessions at the Complejo Deportiva Puerto de Mazarrón (between Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón) on Mondays and Thursdays, from 10am to 11am or the Camposol Sector D football pitch on Fridays between 9am and 10am.
