ARCHIVED - Andalusian government announces current restrictions to be extended at least another week
The Covid-19 restrictions in place at the moment include a ban on gatherings of more than 4 people from different households, a curfew from 10 pm to 6 am, closure of non-essential businesses and ban on the sale of alcohol from 6 pm, restrictions on movement between the Andalusian provinces and on entering and leaving the region.
Perimeter closures continue for municipalities with an accumulated incidence rate of more than 500 and closure of all non-essential businesses for those with a rate of more than 1,000.
Current restrictions are to remain in place in Andalusia until at least 4 March, the head of the regional government announced on Tuesday (23 February). Although the ‘committee of experts’ that determines measures to combat Covid-19 in the region was due to meet this Wednesday, they have asked for another week to see whether the downward trend in the incidence of the virus continues before deciding whether to lessen current restrictions.
The next meeting has been set for 6 pm on Wednesday 3 March, the same day that the Spanish Interterritorial Health Board is due to meet to discuss measures at a nationwide level.
The regional president hinted that he hoped to be able to somewhat ease restrictions on travel between Andalusian provinces and on commercial activities next week, but stressed that the third wave of coronavirus has hit the region particularly hard and that great caution is required.
He highlighted that more than 8,000 people in Andalusia have lost their lives to the virus and that although things appear to be improving every effort must be made to avoid a fourth wave.
