ARCHIVED - Andalusia reports lowest Covid-19 figures in 24 hours since early January
Just 650 new cases and 11 deaths have been reported on Monday 22 February, with 4 of the southern Spanish region’s 8 provinces (Granada, Jaén, Seville and Huelva) reporting no deaths at all in 24 hours.
Andalusia has registered 650 new cases of coronavirus on Monday 22 February, the lowest daily figure since 2 January (when 407 were reported), according to the latest data from the Andalusian Statistics and Cartography Institute (IECA). 11 deaths have been registered over the last 24 hours, the lowest figure since 11 January when 9 were reported.
Upon comparing the figures reported on each Monday this month, the downward trend in infections is apparent: 4,286 new cases were reported on 1 February, 2,902 on 8 February, 1,187 on 15 February and just 650 today (22 February).
The 14-day accumulated incidence rate for the region (see top graph) has also dropped to 279.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down 61.8 from Friday (19 February). The region hadn’t seen a rate under 300 since Monday 11 January.
Almería is the province to have reported the most new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, 170, followed by Seville with 118, Málaga with 108, Cádiz with 107, Córdoba with 64, Jaen with 41, Granada with 39 and Huelva with 3.
Cádiz recorded the most deaths from Covid-19, 6, followed by Córdoba and Málaga with 2 each and Almería with 1. No deaths from the virus have been reported in Granada, Jaen, Seville or Huelva in the 24-hour period.
The number of people in hospital with the virus increased very slightly, by 5, to 2,338, with 564 of them in ICUs.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Andalusia has registered 469,062 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 8,099 deaths. Altogether, 36,828 people have had to be admitted to hospital, and 3,572 of them have been in intensive care.
