ARCHIVED - Andalusia reports 9 deaths and 2,249 new coronavirus cases: Covid update April 9
Although the number of deaths and new positive cases in the Spanish region of Andalusia has dropped slightly from the previous day, the incidence rate continues to creep upwards.
There have been nine Covid deaths and 2,249 new cases in Andalusia on Thursday, according to the latest data released by the regional statistics institute on Friday 9 April. The 14-day accumulated incidence rate continues to rise and has now reached 190 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The number of new cases was down 341 from Thursday’s figures, and the number of deaths from the virus was down eight from Thursday, but hospital admissions have increased. New cases however, are still considerably higher than last week, hence the rising accumulated incidence rate.
On Friday morning, there were 1,372 Covid-patients in Andalusian hospitals, 32 more than the previous day and 340 more than last Friday, and 292 of them are in ICUs, four more than on Thursday and 27 more than a week beforehand.
There are now 69 towns and villages in the region with perimeter closures in place as their incidents rates are higher than 500 cases per 100,000 residents, and non-essential businesses remain closed in 17 of them where rates are higher than 1,000 per 100,000.
Yesterday the region beat its own vaccination record, administering 77,620 vaccines in a single 24 hour period.
