Click HereThe Town Hall of Águilas has announced that this Christmas the municipality will be taking part in the “Niño de la Navidad” scheme, which consists of sending boxes of toys to underprivileged children in developing countries.
Leading the participation of Águilas is the local Baptist Evangelist church, and Mayoress Mari Carmen Moreno has lent her support by encouraging residents to support the campaign.
Niño de la Navidad is a worldwide campaign organized by the Samaritan’s Purse group, and is supported in Spain by schools, businesses, Catholic parish churches and numerous non-religious associations. The presents collected are distributed to children in need regardless of their colour, gender and creed by churches in their countries, and all accounts are fully audited to ensure that not a cent of profit is made by the distributing organizations.
Donations are made not only in Spain but also in the UK (where it is known as Operation Christmas Child), Germany, Austria, Finland, Japan, Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand, and as a result last year over 11 million shoeboxes containing gifts such as classroom materials, toys and the like are delivered to needy children in more than 100 countries all over the world.
Anyone wishing to contribute in Águilas is encouraged to do so by applying for one of the boxes either at the Concejalía de la Mujer in the Town Hall or at the Iglesia Evangélica Bautista (Plaza Doctor Calero, 5): the boxes should be returned, with the presents chosen inside, no later than 23rd November.
