ARCHIVED - 44 flights re-directed from Alicante-Elche airport to Corvera on Monday
Helsinki and Stockholm reappear on the departures boards at Corvera!
With Alicante-Elche airport closed for the second time in under a week, this time by the threat of heavy snow and wind speeds of up to 130 km/h, the Region of Murcia International Airport in Corvera is again experiencing a sudden boost in passenger numbers as airlines re-schedule some of their services from the Costa Blanca to the Costa Cálida.
Last week the dramatic, unexpected surge in traffic at Corvera was brought about by a fire which forced the closure of the terminal building in Alicante, and now destinations such as Stockholm, Düsseldorf and Helsinki have reappeared on the arrivals and departures boards in Murcia with 25 arrivals and 19 departures having been added. At present it is anticipated that normal service will be resumed during the afternoon in Alicante, with the airport reopening at 13.00, but in the meantime there is a real chance that the January figures regarding passenger numbers at Corvera will show a significant improvement over the first month of 2019! UPDATE: ALICANTE WILL REMAIN CLOSED THROUGHOUT MONDAY.
Obviously, any passengers scheduled to be flying into or out of Alicante during the day are strongly advised to check the status of their flights with their airlines: some have been cancelled while others have been re-directed not only to Corvera but also to Valencia.
