29th September, pianist Judith Jáuregui and conductor Tomás Grau with the Murcia Symphony Orchestra at the Auditorio Víctor Villegas in Murcia
Music by Schumann and Tchaikovsky at the regional auditorium in Murcia
In the first event of their 2019-20 cycle of concerts at the Auditorio Víctor Villegas in the regional capital the Region of Murcia Symphony Orchestra (OSRM) perform under the baton of guest conductor Tomás Grau and with pianist Judith Jáuregui.
The program features Schumann’s concerto for piano and orchestra and Tchaikovsky’s 6th symphony.
Schumann; Concerto for piano and orchestra
Tchaikovsky: Symphony number 6
Described by critics as a luminous, elegant and personal artist, Judith Jáuregui has become one of today’s most captivating young pianists, with a distinctive and creative approach. Embracing three centuries of repertoire, over this and coming seasons she places a special focus on the Viennese Classics, on the musical relationship between Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms, on works by female composers, and on the oeuvre of Debussy and composers related to him like Liszt, Chopin and Falla.
In the words of the Spanish magazine Scherzo, her career to date has been characterized by “an extraordinary natural energy” and she is an artist whose “temperament, freshness and musical dedication open the way to a fabulous future.”
Born in San Sebastián in northern Spain, Judith grew up in France in a multicultural environment, with her Basque mother and Mexican father. After initial studies in San Sebastián and a debut recital at the age of just 11, she moved to Munich to study with the distinguished Russian pianist Vadim Suchanov at the Richard-Strauss Konservatorium.
In recent years she has been enthusiastically received on leading stages both in Europe and Asia, and highlights of her 2018/2019 season included concerts in Bilbao, Madrid and Seville, recitals in Berlin and Vienna and festival dates in Gstaad, Klosters, Porto and Toulon.
Tomás Grau was born in Barcelona in 1979 and studied at the Superior Conservatory of Music in his own city, where he achieved the Professor of Choir Conducting Degree and was rewarded with the Honorary Award in 2003. He continued his conducting studies at the Superior School of Music of Catalunya, where he graduated in Orchestral Conducting with top ratings in 2007.
He has conducted numerous international soloists including Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sabine Meyer, Stephen Kovacevich, Alexander Melnikov, Steven Isserlis, Alice Sara Ott, Sayaka Shoji, Albrecht Mayer, Asier Polo, Pablo Ferrández and Judith Jáuregui in leading concert halls of Spain and Europe.
He is currently the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Camera Musicae Symphony Orchestra in Tarragona and is often invited to conduct other orchestras.
The performance at the Auditorio Víctor Villegas in Murcia begins at 20.00 with tickets priced at between 10 and 24 euros. Alternatively, this is the first of ten events in the 2019-20 OSRM cycle at the auditorium, and season tickets can be purchased for between 64 and 111 euros: click for further information.
