ARCHIVED - 22nd February, national field archery competition at Lorca castle
A route with 24 targets around the grounds of the Fortaleza del Sol in Lorca
It has been announced that the first event in the Spanish national field archery league is to be held on Saturday 22nd February at Lorca castle.
The event consists of a circuit of 24 targets located on a route around the “Fortaleza del Sol”, requiring of participants not only a high level of firing accuracy but also the physical stamina to complete the circuit and the flexibility of firing over a wide variety of distances. The limit of 104 competitors has already been reached for the first time at any competition of this nature in Spain, according to councillor Irene Jódar Pérez, and among them are two world champions and the president of the ArcoLorca group, Ana Cano, who was recently runner-up in the national barebow championship.
To coincide with the holding of the event extra guided visits of the medieval synagogue at the castle are being organized every 30 minutes between 11.30 and 14.00 and from 16.30 to 18.00, all at their usual price of only 4 euros.
Field archery is a very complicated discipline which requires participants to aim at targets which are no fixed distance away, sometimes uphill or downhill, some in shade and others not. Long bow, barebow and recurve archers can all take part, and the results in Lorca will go towards selecting the Spanish national team at the world championships.
If you want to go along and see what's going on at the castle on the 22nd, the normal entry fee of 6 euros applies. Click for full information about Lorca castle.
