ARCHIVED - Valencia region closing down bars and restaurants and amplifying restrictions
The new measures come into effect in Alicante province, Valencia and Castellón from Thursday 21st
The Generalitat Valenciana has decided to incerase the restrictions in the three provinces of Alicante, Castellón and Valencia due to the recent surge in coronavirus cases in the region.
On Monday the regional government, the Generalitat, announced 95 fatalities since the last update on Saturday, and has tripled its AI rate during the last month to 896 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, positioning it in sixth position out of the 17 autonomous regions and above the average for Spain.
“The measures put in place up to now have not been enough, “ said regional president Ximo Puig when presenting the new restrictions which will all be valid for 14 days.
Measures announced:
The principal measure decreed is the closure of the hostelry sector, which will take effect on Thursday 21st January for a period of 14 days.
Total closure of the hostelry sector in the Valencian Community, only take-out service is allowed, either distributed from premises or through delivery drivers. No consumption allowed within the premises.
The retail sector and shops are to close at 6:00 p.m., with the exception of essential services such as food and pharmacies.
The regional governemnt has joined the requests to the Government that the curfew be brought forward to 8:00 p.m. At the moment, it begins at 22.00 (answer expected Wednesday following national meeting with the heads of the regional health authorities).
The perimeter closure of the Valencian Community continues and the maximum group size allowed to meet remains at 6 people.
Closure of all sports facilities except professional sportsmen who may continue training and competing.
Cessation of the activity of bingo halls, casinos, arcades and betting.
Precautionary closure of recreational centers for the elderly, retirement homes, youth homes and libraries. This measure also applies to places where festive activities take place.
Prohibition of visits to university residences.
